  2. Dave, what happened to the trust for public land deal?

I sure hope that they don't stop dredging in the rivers becasue as a fisherman the dredge holes are the best fishing holes they are deep and cool water that the fish love. I have never seen an injured fish or a dead fish by any of the holes I have fished at.

  3. I thought that Peter DeFazio was onboard with the Forest Service and County and trust to get this guy out of our wilderness. The Forest service is sure wishy washie in the letter posted. I need to rally the troops and get these guys on the ball. We don't want people making a mess in the forest.
Frank the fishermen are our next target!!!

  4. Hi "frank"
I agree. I've never seen a fish killed by a dredge yet all those fisherman killing fish just need to pay the piper and kill all day long. They have no mandate to use the fish for their own meals so they could feed them to their cat or use them for fertilizer. The enviros will be after them next, mark my words, then the hunters, then everyone who drives a pickup truck, etc..etc..etc...If the State of Fear is so great, then the enviro hysteria machine will never stop and our economy and USA is helpless. Sorry for the soap box..Blame the enviro's.

I really don't have any idea about the Trust for Public Land. Probably the economy caught up with them or no support from the USFS to get an appraisal.

  5. Two excellent videos pertaining to the environmental movement. Emlly Camp is a gem, and if it wasn't, why all the fuss, right?

  6. It is clear that the Forest Service does not what these mining operations to go through in the Kalmiopisis, so why not just buy out the patented property (Little Chetco) and the three mining claims (along the Chetco)?
I was thinking this was already done, what happened?
For the miners: How much would this cost???

  7. Is there an update about the sale/Purchase of either the claims or Emlly Camp? Has anyone ever been there? How remote of an area is it? Tom

  8. Hi Tomoregon,
I read your posting. I'm not sure if anyone besides the US Forest Service and the claim owners have ever been to the unpatented claims since it is so totally remote. Claim Gold 11 is several mile downstream from Emlly Camp, the patented in-holding. I could go into details of how we got there with the aide of a helicopter and kayaks. We do plan to return each year by kayaking through again and perhaps doing some bench mining at the Chetco Bar. As far as 'an update on the sale/purchase', I've heard nothing from any group or otherwise since the meeting with Trust for Public Land. Neither the US Forest Service nor TPL wanted to proceed to get an appraisal, and I can only guess it was because no one wanted to spend any money. $15,000 or so maybe. TPL approached me in March last year but never really got support from the US Forest Service from what I heard 2nd hand. The structure was interesting and to say the least for any non-profit like TPL.

  9. Hi Nick Flann
TPL wanted all 9 of the unpatented mining claims to also be sold with Emlly Camp. (not just the 3 you mentioned) The basis was that Emlly Camp would be sold at the same time by consolidating all of it together to make the 'Wilderness Whole'. This is what TPL asked for. No one or group has since expressed any interest on this topic for conservation, but I can tell you I've had other interest in access, mining and other uses. But I would venture to bet that most environmentalist (some who are cashiers and professional students) wouldn't put up $100 to see the property go back to Wilderness. Ideology over money always conflict here. They just whine, which is great publicity. See ya on the trail...

  10. Nick,
Sorry, I didn't answer your other question about how much it would cost? I presume you are asking about the split up of Emlly Camp into the 500 owners, right? I'm thinking $1500 to be a new fractional interest owner. ..The percent is smaller but a one time purchase and a real property owner FSBO, not an investment. All along my interest has been to share the experience with 'like minded' people. I've just been so busy buying real estate in Texas & Montana to take the time to finish the portfolio and disclosures in final draft form for the attorneys. Its just time, right!

Or, did you mean to purchase the whole property? I would expect an appraisal to tell me its value but I could only make a guess based on prior appraisal readings. Likely over $1.5M but less than $3M.

    Good luck prospecting. Happy trails.
    Dave
